Finally, I feel like I have something definite to talk about this unique deck and system, the Oracle-X.
For those who do not know, the Oracle-X was created by X10n Publishing. The idea behind it was to create a deck that is not only unique and customizable (as you can buy new cards separately, thus making the deck suit your individual needs), but also has archetypes that can speak to all kinds of people.
Was the goal accomplished? Honestly, I cannot say. The connection that you have with a deck is so personal that I would not dare to speak for anyone else but myself.
The Oracle-X basic set is made of 36 cards. The first 30 cards are the "core" cards, present in every basic set. The other 6 cards are expansion, and come randomly in each box, meaning that nearly no box has the same combination of cards. This means that you get a deck that is unique. You also have the possibility of purchasing new cards from the Oracle-X website, adapting the original set to your needs.
The cards are small - 9 cm x 6.4cm (3.54" x 2.51") - and the cardstock is wonderful! It is heaven to shuffle, soft, not sticky, slides well but doesn't damage the corners in the first shuffle... very good. The back of the card features the logotype of the Oracle-X against a beige/brown background, which may be a turn off for some people who prefer prettier backs or who enjoy using reversals. It didn't bother me at all.
The front part has the name of the card, its image, its number, a grid (used to identify the main theme of the cards) and a series of four 'runes' (which represent the secondary themes/purposes of the card). When using the Oracle-X I did not incorporate the runes or the grid in my readings, because I found it a bit mind-boggling. But people who employ more "left-brain"techniques in card reading may enjoy this.
